Ethnography is a method of qualitative research wherein the researcher observes and interacts with participants of the study in their natural environment.

The purpose of the current study is to use ethnography to help develop a deep understanding of campus culture and student life. It would give great insight into uncovering hidden and unexpected issues.

Steps in Ethnographic Research

Identify the problem to be addressed and formulate the research question.

Narrow down on the location

This is followed by deciding what is the best method to procure objective information

Acquire permissions from gatekeepers and gain access to the site.

Observe and participate. Mere observation does not suffice. It is crucial to participate.

Conduction of interviews may be necessary to develop a deeper understanding.

Do a review of archival data to enhance understanding of surroundings.

The final step is to code your data in a way that makes most sense and analyze it to make conclusive deductions and remarks.

Re: Topic 2 DQ 1

Hi Professor and class,

Interpretivist methodology is the best fit because it allows all parties to explain how they feel about the study and the research doing done. As an Interpretivist it is really important to be up front and honest about any potental bias that there may be through out the course of the study. By opening up and setting aside any bias will greatly help the person to not feel judged in any way.
