(Four Abstracts Category 1: Other (non-tax) policy to reduce consumption of SSBs)
All articles appear to be relevant and relatively recent. Good job! Start thinking about how you will weave this together to present a good brief that will inform the senator.
Feedback for Briefing Book Sec 2:
(Summary Sheet for each cluster of articles)
We asked you all to please review FAQs and example section 1 for the format of what we expected you all to turn in. In addition to these summary sheets, you were to turn in a one-page brief introducing your topic and explaining your findings for the evidence regarding your topic. That being said, based off what you turned in, your articles appear to be relevant. See comment bubbles for specific comments.
Still Need: one-page brief introducing your topic and explaining your findings for the evidence regarding your topic. (Summary of four articles for Category 1)
Feedback for Literature search documentation for Briefing Book Sec 3:
(Briefing Book Sec 3 Wild Card)
It is not clear to me what your wildcard option is. Remember, the senator is proposing an SSB tax. You were assigned an alternative policy recommendation for section 2. You are now coming up with a wildcard option for section 3. I’ll ask you to focus in on a specific policy recommendation – if you are going with workplace health promotion policies that is fine, just make sure to support it. Also, make sure you are presenting a policy recommendation and not a health promotion program itself. Remember, as an employee of the state you are not taking a side, rather presenting suitable alternatives that are based in evidence. Best of luck!
There are different types of briefing books. They can be used to prepare a speaker for a press conference, for an event (like a ceremony in which they are giving or receiving an award), for or a meeting, etc.
A briefing book can also be used to prepare an organization, a key committee, or a key representative or decision-maker to quickly gain a command of an issue. It should identify areas of disagreement, controversy, or tension; it should summarize the most relevant and compelling evidence that is required to engage intelligently in discussion, debate, and, of course, policy-making.
A briefing book for policy making purposes should include: Discussion: Policy to reduce consumption of SSBs
a. What is the issue that this briefing book addresses?
b. What is the background the reader needs to understand?
c. Are there key tensions or tradeoffs the reader needs to be aware of before reviewing the evidence?

Briefing books are internal documents. In this instance, we are asking you to create a briefing book meant to allow another to make a decision. It should not lead the reader or suggest positions or make recommendations. This does not mean that
Please be aware of the following updates:
Reading materials are already available in week 5 folder
Read the update to the briefing book folder
Read the update to the policy memo folder
Feedback is already available for Section 3 literature search submission (see gradebook)
Remember, you are not to take a side, rather present two distinct policy options (Section 2 is your assigned option and Section 3 is your wild card option) for the senator to consider besides her SSB tax proposal (Section 1) .
These policy options are to be based in evidence from the literature.
Make sure you address policies, not necessarily a health promotion program, although the findings from such a program could support your policy recommendation.
